Seminar Aims to Boost Independent Businesses

The free public seminar will begin with the benefits of independent, community based business. It will also highlight some of the hidden costs that come with reliance on absentee businesses or chains.

The City of Malibu will host a seminar aimed at helping local businesses that serve Malibu customers.

The free public seminar, Strength in Numbers, will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road.

The event will be led by the nonprofit American Independent Business Alliance and will seek to build a coalition to stimulate local business, according to city spokeswoman Olivia Damavandi.

The seminar will also aim to provide participants with an understanding of the keys to successful local business alliances and best practices, Damavandi said.
