Seven Entered in Malibu Council Race
The deadline to get on the ballot was Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Five men and two women will compete in this year's campaign for three seats on the . The people who qualified for the ballot by the 5 p.m. deadline on Wednesday were Andy Lyon, "Malibu" Hamish "The Illusion" Patterson, Hans Laetz, Joan House, John Sibert, Missy Zeitsoff and Skylar Peak.
There was some suspense in the final hours of the nomination period. Early in the afternoon, a political unknown from Point Dume named Amy Zimmermann pulled papers from . She returned a few hours later with the nomination packet, signed by 30 people she believed to be registered Malibu voters.
Zimmermann then entered the , where she remained for more than two hours. When she finally left the room, Zimmermann told Malibu Patch, "I chickened out. I'm not running."

, 74, is the only incumbent in the race. Pamela Conley Ulich is not eligible to compete due to term limits and Jefferson "Zuma Jay" Wagner .
, 65, and , 73, are former council members. Zeitsoff was elected to the first council in 1990. She served from March 1991, when Malibu became a city, until April 1992, when she lost a re-election bid. House served from 1992 to 2004. She chose not to run for re-election in 2004.

If House is among the top three vote-getters, she would serve an unprecedented fourth term. Her first two terms do not count toward the term limits rule because they were served before voters approved the ballot measure creating the law in 2000.
, 27, is a lifetime Malibu resident and a member of the Commission. He is the son of popular Malibu resident Dusty Peak, who died in 2009. The younger Peak gained international attention in 2008 when he and fellow Malibu resident Phillip Hildebrand were involved in a physical altercation with paparazzi attempting to photograph Malibu actor Matthew McConaughey at a local beach. The two were charged with misdemeanor battery. A trial in 2010 resulted in a hung jury, and the charges were eventually dismissed.
, 49, is a third-generation Malibu resident. He is a Realtor and a fierce critic of the . His face is nationally recognizable for a Subaru commercial that has aired numerous times in which a father played by Lyon speaks to a daughter before her first drive. The daughter is shown as a little girl and then as an older girl. The two actresses in the commercial are Lyon's real-life daughters Georgie, 6, and Lanna, 18.
Patterson, 42, is known in Malibu for his various YouTube videos, which contain his commentaries on a variety of topics along with interesting special effects. He has been active in the effort to get . Peak has also been a leader in this process.
, 54, is a journalist and legal analyst. The 14-year Malibu resident has written for and works for City News Service, although he said he does not cover Malibu politics. Laetz told Malibu Patch his main issue is public safety.
The order of the names on the ballot will be determined on Thursday through a random drawing conducted by the California Secretary of State's office. Election Day is April 10. The last day to register to vote is March 26.
