Sheriff Ups Patrols for Cinco de Mayo Weekend

LA County residents should designate a driver before hitting the roads.

The Los Angeles County DUI Task Force and the California Highway Patrol will be out in force throughout LA County for the Cinco De Mayo weekend.

The extra patrols started at 6 p.m. Friday and will continue through Sunday, according to an advisory message sent out by the LA County Sheriff's Department.

“Saving lives, reducing injuries, traffic collisions and property damage is important work,” said Sheriff Lee Baca. "Every life is a life worth saving and we will do our utmost to help keep the public safe."

The CHP will also be out on freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers.

According to DUI statistics, the greatest number of DUI deaths and injuries occur late Saturday night early Sunday morning.
