Sidley Decides Against Council Run

The Malibu native says he does not think he could win in this election.

One day after attorney Mike Sidley pulled papers from for a potential run, the Malibu native has decided he will not enter the contest. Sidley told Malibu Patch on Saturday that he did not think he would be able to win.

"I assessed the likelihood of me being elected, and I don't know if Malibu is ready for Mike Sidley yet," Sidley said.

He said his controversial positions in opposition to the and the proposal could hurt his chances of being elected this year. Sidley said he would consider running in a future election.

Sidley, who ran for council in 2010 and placed fifth out of 10 candidates, said he had originally decided not to run this year. City Council member Jefferson "Zuma Jay" Wagner's announcement on Friday gave Sidley the idea there might be an opening for him, and that was why he pulled papers prior to making his final decision.

Sidley said he wanted to run because he has some concerns about Malibu's financial future, which he believe is troubled if it continues down a path he does not believe is appropriate. Sidley is concerned about the future costs of the new City Hall and how the will be funded.
