Small Shrub Fire Put Out in Malibu

The fire may have been caused by careless human action.

A small shrub fire was put out Sunday morning by Los Angeles County firefighters in the Malibu West neighborhood, resident Douglas Burdge wrote in an email to Malibu Patch. Burdge wrote that he was told by a fire official that the blaze may have been caused by careless human error. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Malibu through 3 p.m. today due to the strong winds.

The captain at Fire Station No. 99 told Malibu Patch that the fire was not significant and he did not know the cause. No structural damage or injuries were reported.

Burdge wrote, "[The firefighters] were driving around and saw smoke and quickly responded ... so just a warning to our neighbors to make sure to keep a look out all day while we have these high winds and certainly be extremely careful when outside with any ignitable objects ... big thanks go out to the fire department!"
