The following is an edited press release from :
Father Bill Kerze, pastor of Our Lady of Malibu Church, announced Tuesday that Michael Smith has been retained as the permanent principal of Our Lady of Malibu School effective immediately.
Smith had been hired as an interim principal for the current school year, during which an extensive search was to be conducted for someone to fill the position on a permanent basis.

With his 37 years of experience on all levels of education, however, Smith has proven to be an excellent fit at OLM, providing outstanding leadership and direction to the school. Thus, Kerze decided that any further search was unnecessary. Before making his decision, Kerze consulted with parents, faculty and school board members, who expressed their overwhelming support of Smith's appointment.
Smith had retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2009, but "missed being with students and teachers" and now welcomes the opportunity to serve as permanent principal at Our Lady of Malibu.
