Trancas Nursery Signs 5-Year Lease

The lease will go into effect toward the end of the construction period for the redevelopment of Trancas Country Market, a source familiar with the agreement says.

Nearly a year after they received an eviction notice, the owners of  signed a five-year lease on Friday to remain at Trancas Country Market, a source familiar with the agreement told Malibu Patch on Saturday.

The lease will go into effect toward the end of the construction period for the remodeling of the mall located on Malibu's west end, the source said.

Zuma Beach LLC, owner of Trancas Market, issued a 30-day eviction notice for Trancas Nursery and  (a flower shop located within Trancas Nursery) in April 2010. This sparked a , and Zuma Beach LLC, which is owned by Wal-Mart heiress Paige Dubbert and her husband Bo, .

Since the eviction was rescinded, Malibu attorney Bruce Dunn has represented Trancas Nursery for free in negotiations for a new lease.

Discussions are ongoing between the owners of Sea Lily and Zuma Beach LLC about establishing a lease for that business, the source told Malibu Patch.

The near-eviction of the two businesses led to a renewed community discussion on , and whether new laws should be created to protect them. Several meetings have taken place on this topic, and the issue is expected to be on the  agenda next month.
