Flying Tent Causes Malibu Power Outage

Structure lifted into the air by strong winds knocks into power lines on Murphy Way, causing early-morning outage.

Southern California Edison customers on Murphy Way and the surrounding area in Malibu were without power for several hours Wednesday morning after power lines were damaged by a "tent-like structure" that was carried into the air by the strong winds, Edison spokesman Mark Olson told Malibu Patch.

Olson said the damaged lines were reported at 12:16 a.m. An Edison crew repaired them, restoring power to most customers later in the morning. Power was expected to return by mid-afternoon for the two remaining customers still without it.

The strong winds have caused power outages throughout the county, but the Murphy Way outage was the only one reported in Malibu, Olson said.
