Hiker Fractures Ankle, Carried to Safety

Rescuers hiked up 1 1/2 miles into the trail to help the woman, who fell near the popular waterfalls.

A woman was hurt Friday when she fell at the base of the Escondido Falls near Malibu, according to initial reports.

The injury was reported at 1:48 p.m. Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Rescuers were making their way up 1 1/2 miles into the trail to get to the woman, the fire department reported.

Members from Malibu Search and Rescue reached the woman by 2:30 p.m.

The woman reportedly at the base of the falls, fracturing her ankle, according to David Katz, public information officer for Malibu Search and Rescue.

She was being carried out by rescuers, Katz said.

This is the second incident Malibu SAR has responded to at the falls this week. On Tuesday, from an area above the falls when they became dehydrated.
