12-Foot Waves Prompt Flood Warning To Manhattan Beach Coast

Forecasters predicted 12-foot waves off the coast of LA County accompanied by deadly rip currents.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The National Weather Service issued high surf and coastal flood advisories, urging those near Los Angeles County beaches to be cautious of waves up to 12 feet tall and dangerous rip currents.

Through Wednesday night, large breaking waves are expected to hit 8 to 12 feet at LA county beaches, and drowning risk will increase.

Residents were warned against swimming or surfing in the dangerous conditions.

"With no signs of letting up, another series of swells are expected to impact our coastline well into the back half of the week. As the waves persist, be sure to know your limits and check in with a lifeguard to better understand ocean conditions and all hazards that may be present," LA County Lifeguards said.

Forecasters predict high tides will also bring coastal flooding over normally dry sandy beach areas. Residents were advised to protect flood-prone property and were warned against driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
