78 New Trees To Be Planted At Polliwog Park

The second phase of the Polliwog Park Tree Project is underway, and eight new tree species will be introduced to the community space.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach officials announced the second phase of the Polliwog Park Tree Project is now underway and 78 new trees will be planted at the community space.

Since April, crews have been working to remove several beetle-infested and diseased trees that were impacting Polliwog Park. According to the city, seven eucalyptus trees were infested with the Eucalyptus Longhorned Beetle and seven pine trees were infected with Pine Pitch Canker, a tree disease.

The next phase of the project will be to plant 78 new trees of 8 different native species to add to the biodiversity of the park.

The city will plant:

  • 10 White Alder trees
  • 20 Tipu Trees
  • 9 Coast Live Oak trees
  • 13 Big Leaf Maple trees
  • 3 Weeping Boer-Bean trees
  • 7 Fremont Cottonwood trees
  • 10 California Sycamore trees
  • 6 Silky Oak trees
