Armed Man Robs Teenagers on Way Home from High School
The youths were walking home from freshman orientation at Mira Costa High School.
Three 14-year-old boys were robbed by a man with a handgun Thursday around 2 p.m., police said.
The man demanded the boys' cell phones and money as they walked north on Peck Avenue on the east side near Sixth Street, said Det. Michael Rosenberger of the Manhattan beach Police Department.
The boys, who were not physically harmed, complied. The man then ordered the teens to walk away in the opposite direction, Rosenberger said. The suspect was last seen walking north on Peck Avenue toward Eighth Street. He had approached the boys as they passed Sixth Street as they walked home from freshman orientation at Mira Costa High School.

Police are looking for the suspect and a blue, older model car seen in the area around the same time. The car was stopped in a red zone at Eighth Street and Peck Avenue, and police are exploring a possible connection.
The robber is described as a black, male adult, medium complexion, 27- to 35-years-old, 6’ to 6’2” tall, 210 to 230 lbs., with a muscular build, short dark hair on his chin, and wearing gray sweat pants and a light gray T-shirt with “ARMY” written in dark gray lettering across the chest. He had tattoos on both arms.
