MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The following is the most recent Manhattan Beach Police Department crime summary.

From Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 there were:

  • 885 calls for service
  • 19 arrests
  • 24 traffic collisions
  • 52 crime reports taken

  • On Aug. 28, police responded to the 400 block of 5th Street regarding a residential burglary. The resident told police they parked their bicycle in their garage and it was gone the next day. Surveillance video showed a suspect going into the garage quickly to take the bicycle. Police said the garage door didn't appear to have been forced open and it was unknown whether the garage was closed or open.
  • Between Aug. 30 and Sept. 3, the U.S. Army National Guard reported a burglary at the armory. According to police, the reporting party entered the armory and confronted the suspect who was leaving the restroom area. The suspect ran out of the building toward Sand Dune Park and was soon out of sight. The reporting party told police that an office had been rummaged through and money was stolen from a box labeled"Unit Funds." Investigators didn't find any evidence of forced entry to the building.
  • On Aug. 30, police arrested a suspect in connection to a vehicle theft. The theft was reported just after the car was stolen, and officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle abandoned in Hermosa Beach. Witnesses told officers that they saw somebody running from the car down Valley Drive toward the park. Officers from Hermosa Beach helped MBPD locate the suspect and arrested them. Investigators found the suspect was on probation in Orange County for an unlisted offense, Post Release Community Supervision for extortion and had two felony warrants for vehicle theft.
  • On Sept. 1, officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 1200 block of The Strand. According to the homeowners, they returned home and heard a man's voice coming from inside. When they entered their home, they were confronted by a suspect holding a pool cue stick in the kitchen, police said. The suspect then started swinging the pool stick and struck one of the homeowners, causing them to run out of the house and call the police. Officers established a perimeter and the suspect left the home and was quickly taken into custody.
