Data Says COVID-19 Still Showing Up In Manhattan Beach Residents
The city has yet to be immune to new cases, however, daily increases still tend to be small in a county where the virus has hit hard.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — New positive tests for COVID-19 continue to be few in Manhattan Beach, where the numbers continue to increase slightly. Just three days ago on Sunday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 281 cases in the city since data began being reported in early March. Today, Wednesday, August 12, Manhattan Beach's number has risen to 287, an increase of six cases over 3 days.
Public Health reported today that COVID-19 "transmission rates remain high. These higher rates are driven, in part, by younger people between 18 to 30 years old who currently account for 25% to 30% of new infections." Today, the department also "has confirmed 58 new deaths and 2,428 new cases of COVID-19. Of the new cases reported by Public Health today (excluding Long Beach and Pasadena), 71% occurred in people under the age of 50 years old.
"The number of new cases reported today includes about 700 backlog cases from the State. We anticipate receiving additional backlog cases later this week. Data sources that track other key indicators, including hospitalizations and deaths, are not affected by this reporting issue."
