'Disoriented' Missing Person Breaks Into Home: Manhattan Beach Crime

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The following is the most recent Manhattan Beach Police Department crime summary.
From Aug 15 to 21 there were:
- 867 calls for service
- 26 arrests
- 19 traffic collisions

- On Aug. 16, Manhattan Beach police responded to the 700 block of 31st Street at about 2:52 a.m. due to reports of a residential burglary. A witness told police they saw a man enter a home, walk around for a few minutes and leave at around 2:30 a.m. At the time, a teenage resident was inside the home and assumed the man was one of his parents walking around. A short while after he left, the suspect returned to the home and the witness called police. When officers arrived they said the man appeared to be disoriented. Officers later discovered the man was reported missing and he was taken to a hospital for treatment and a mental health evaluation.
- On Aug. 16, police responded to a battery incident at Shellback Tavern in the 100 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. At the bar, police were told a fight broke out during an argument and a person was punched. The suspect fled the scene but returned a short time later. After reviewing the surveillance video, officers arrested the suspect and took him to the MBPD jail.
