Hermosa Beach Politician Says He Won't Run In Manhattan Beach
Controversial Hany Fangary is stepping down from Hermosa Beach City Council due to a move to Manhattan Beach. Here's what he has to say.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Unlike current Manhattan Beach Mayor Suzanne Hadley who was given her mayoral stint when her rotation was due in spite of opposition, Hermosa Beach City Council member Hany Fangary has not fared as well in his city.
The beleaguered councilman, who has been passed over two times for his turn as mayor in what is a departure from the normal protocol in Hermosa Beach, told Manhattan Beach Patch he has "absolutely zero interest in getting involved in politics" in Manhattan Beach. Fangary submitted a resignation letter to Hermosa Beach on Christmas Eve, saying he was moving to Manhattan Beach. State law requires that council members live in the city they represent.
Fangary said his family probably will be moved to Manhattan Beach "in a few weeks". His resignation from the HB City Council will take effect Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. His term was set to expire November 2022. The Hermosa Beach city council plans to hold a preliminary discussion about filling Fangary's seat at its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, according to a Hermosa Beach news release.

Fangary, who was serving his second term on the HB city council, was passed over as mayor in November of 2019 and 2020. His colleagues on council elected to do so. Fangary, who filed a lawsuit over his first pass over as mayor, told MB Patch, "When you get slapped in the face by colleagues you considered friends, you learn your lesson. Never again."
