Dispose of Unused Rx Drugs Saturday

Residents can properly get rid of unused prescription drugs at the Manhattan Beach Police Station in downtown Manhattan Beach on Saturday.

Manhattan Beach residents can take their unused and unwanted prescription drugs to the Manhattan Beach Police Station, 420 15th Street, Saturday as part of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Those who want to drop off prescription drugs can visit the station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day is meant to address "a vital public safety and public health issue," according to the Take Back website.

More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

The Partnership for a Drug Free America said each day, about 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time.
