MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Ike’s Love & Sandwiches, a booming sandwich chain that melds pop culture, unique sammies and its signature "Dirty Sauce," has opened its newest location on North Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach.

Catering to meat lovers and those who maintain vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free diets, Ike's has garnered a fan following for its "endless, kick-ass" menu of such quirky-named sandwiches as the "Menage A Trois"(halal chicken, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, honey, pepper jack, Swiss, cheddar), "Gramps" (vegan turkey, mushrooms, provolone) and the "Paul Reubens" (pastrami, purple slaw, French dressing, Swiss).

The chain's founder, San Francisco Bay Area native Ike Shehadeh, is renown for crafting sandwiches exclusive to each of his restaurants — including two sandwiches in Manhattan Beach, along with an MB-only barbecue sauce.

"Ike spends hours creating the menu for each new location with exclusive and iconic sandwiches, (and) menus ... that are connected to the city and community," management said.

“Manhattan Beach, you have shown me so much love that I want to give it right back to you," Shehadeh said. "I created two new sandwiches and an extra special BBQ sauce just for you. You’re going to love these new sandwiches that you can’t get anywhere else except our new Manhattan Beach store.”

The Manhattan Beach-only sammies are: the “Polliwog” with chicken-fried steak, Ike's Manhattan Beach BBQ Sauce, avocado and pepper jack cheese; and a plant-based version, “Fun House,” with vegan fried chicken, MB BBQ Sauce, avocado and pepper jack.

In Woodland Hills, it's the "Howie Eat It," named for celeb Howie Mandel (with tuna, pepper jack, "Godfather Sauce" and "Dirty Sauce" on French bread). In the SF-area's city of Pinole, it's the “Hey Bernardo” with Ike's Perky Pesto and gouda cheese. And in Pleasanton: the “Blackhawk” with fried chicken, purple slaw, "Ike's Spicy Sycamore" sauce and gouda.

Shehadeh, a self-proclaimed "rebel with a dream," opened his first shop, Ike's Place, in 2007 in San Francisco — a sandwich success that drew customer line-ups down the block, management said.

The eatery's Dutch Crunch bread and Ike’s “Dirty Sauce,” a creamy garlic aioli toasted into the bread, meat options, five plant-based proteins, along with a seemingly endless array of sandwich-combo possibilities, keep the customers coming back, according to operators.

The chain now operates nearly 100 restaurants throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Utah, with more than 20 new stores anticipated to open this year, officials said.

The new Ike's is at 1116 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach. Daily hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Check here for menu details and more information.
