Lady Mustangs Run to Victory

Mira Costa and Palos Verdes take top honors at the first cross country meet of the Bay League season.

The Mira Costa High School girls varsity and the Palos Verdes High School boys teams won their respective races Wednesday during the first cross country meet of the season for the Bay League.

A very tight race for the varsity girls ended up with a tie-breaking decision in favor of the Lady Mustangs from Mira Costa, putting Redondo Union High School at a very close second.  

Just three points shy of the leaders was Palos Verdes.

Unlike the girls race, the Palos Verdes High School varsity boys won their race by a landslide, earning a perfect cross country score of 15 and leaving the competition far behind.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School came in at a distant second with a score of 77 points, and West Torrance placed third with 82 points.

The races were held on the new course at Redondo Union High School.

  • 1ST PLACE - Mira Costa High School (43 Points, Tiebreaker)
  • 2ND PLACE - Redondo Union High School (43 Points, Tiebreaker)
  • 3RD PLACE - Palos Verdes High School (46 Points)

FINAL INDIVIDUAL RESULTS - GIRLS VARSITY

  • 1ST PLACE - Rebecca Menra, Palos Verdes (16:18:55)
  • 2ND PLACE - Kelli Sugimoto, Mira Costa (16:19:48)
  • 3RD PLACE - Jenna Tong, Mira Costa (16:37:90)

FINAL TEAM RESULTS - BOYS VARSITY

  • 1ST PLACE - Palos Verdes High School (15 Points)
  • 2ND PLACE - Palos Verdes Peninsula High School (77 Points)
  • 3RD PLACE - West Torrance High School (82 Points)

FINAL INDIVIDUAL RESULTS - BOYS VARSITY

  • 1ST PLACE - Jonah Diaz, Palos Verdes (13:46:75)
  • 2ND PLACE - Justin Unno, Palos Verdes (14:20:08)
  • 3RD PLACE - Ryland Dreibelbis, Palos Verdes (14:25:29)
