Manhattan Beach Car Show Canceled Due To Emergency Parking Lot Closure

The 6th Annual Downtown Manhattan Beach Car Show was canceled due to the emergency closure of Lot 3, officials said.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — This year's Downtown Manhattan Beach Car Show has been canceled due to the emergency closure of parking lot 3, the city announced.

According to the city, the closure of Lot 3 has created a local emergency and would have made holding the car show incredibly difficult for businesses and attendees in the downtown area.

"We understand that this is a disappointing outcome, especially considering the importance of the K-9 Foundation to our organization," the city said in a statement. "We are pleased that the community has rallied around this cause and has recognized the additional pressure that this event would have caused in the downtown area.

Despite the event's cancellation, many of the regular sponsors have pledged donations to support the K-9 Foundation.

Parking Lot 3 was built in 1971 before modern building codes that include crucial seismic safety measures were enforced. A 2022 seismic assessment found that both the second and third levels of the structure weren't up to standards.
