Manhattan Beach Parking Structure Completely Closed For Redesign
Public Parking Lot 3 is set to be fully redesigned after significant structural issues were discovered.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Public Parking Lot 3 will be fully closed until further notice as it undergoes new construction for a complete redesign, city officials said.
After further review of the structure, engineers determined the entire structure unsafe in its current condition and should be kept off-limits to people and vehicles. Previously, the structure was partially closed on the topmost level.
"We understand this closure may inconvenience many, and we are committed to resolving these issues swiftly and effectively to maintain the safety and well-being of our community," the city said in a statement.

Parking Lot 3 was built in 1971 before modern building codes that include crucial seismic safety measures were enforced. A 2022 seismic assessment found that both the second and third levels of the structure weren't up to standards.
Manhattan Beach recently established a free shuttle service to help alleviate traffic congestion in the Downtown area and make up for the lost parking with the closure.

The shuttle transports riders from Pacific Elementary School to downtown Manhattan Beach. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
"We encourage everyone to take advantage of this convenient option to reduce carbon emissions and alleviate parking challenges downtown," city officials said.
