Manhattan Beach Police Bear Brunt Of City Staff Coronavirus Cases

The Manhattan Beach Police Department has had the most cases of the virus among its department personnel than any other department in city.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — According to the latest figures from the City of Manhattan Beach, the Manhattan Beach Police Department has had 12 cases of COVID-19 since data began being collected in March of last year. Two areas of city staff hold the second spot for the highest number of coronavirus cases: Parks & Recreation and "offsite," which is the category designated for city staff that has not been in a designated city staff workplace for 14 days prior to testing positive. Those two categories have had 7 cumulative cases each.

The "Yard" work area which houses Public Works and Finance staff has had 6 cases to date, City Hall has had 2 and the Manhattan Beach Fire Department has had one. City Hall houses staff from the following departments: Human Resources, Information Technology, Management Services, Community Development, Parks & Recreation Administration, and Finance.

The case total for city staff is now 35 as of January 28. That number was 29 on January 12. Half of MBPD's cases, 6, have been acquired since December 22.
