Manhattan Beach Teen to Report on Election for Channel One News
As a student contributor, she will give her opinions on various issues through broadcasts and blog posts.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A Manhattan Beach teen has been chosen as a contributor for Channel One News, a news program geared toward young people.
Genny Jackson, 15, was one of eight chosen as a student contributors to the program. Jackson said she got interested in the election because of the "big personalities" in this year's election.
"My interest in politics grew from watching the debates for extra credit," she said in a YouTube video promo for Channel One. "My dad started talking to me a little more about politics."

As a student contributor, Jackson, who is a freshman at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, will give her opinion on various issues through video posts for Channel One YouTube Channel and blog posts.
She, along with the seven other students, will provide commentary for OneVote 2016, the student mock election that will take place in upper elementary, middle and high schools across the country this fall, according to Channel One.

“In the past, our young voters have largely shown preference for the same candidate as their parents, but the post-millennial generation is forming their own political opinions,” said Angela Hunter, SVP and Executive Producer at Channel One. “Many of the issues they care about, such as access to affordable education and addressing climate change, have not been a primary focus in the presidential election to date. It’s important to give Generation Z a platform to have their voices heard.”
