Manhattan Beach Weekend: White Light, White Night, Music, More

Manhattan Beach: Do something new or different this weekend. Here's a brief roundup of a few things to do and sample, starting Friday.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The pandemic has certainly cut down the number of things we can do on the weekend, however it has taught us how to do things differently. Here are some events, activities and random information.

  • Get out and enjoy a lively tune or two [or three or four...] at Music Rhapsody's Family Music Night End of Summer event Friday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The event includes piano and percussion performances, plus singing, dancing, playing, and lots of fun activities for all ages. You do need to register in advance to attend so they can have the right number of socially distance chairs available. Bring a water bottle and a snack and enjoy a night of music making and performances from Manhattan Beach resident and internationally acclaimed music instructor Lynn Kleiner's Music Rhapsody, which teaches music to infants through adults. The event will be held in the Music Rhapsody parking lot, 1603 Aviation Blvd., #1, Redondo Beach.
  • One of Manhattan Beach's most popular, signature summer events, White Light White Night, an annual fundraising event for Nicholas Arquette's Walk With Sally is doing the Safe-At-Home version this summer. Typically, this masterful outdoor gala, sometimes on a rooftop, draws friends and supporters who know the value Walk With Sally brings to children experiencing difficulty dealing with the cancer journey of a parent, guardian or sibling. This year's event is Saturday, August 22 via live stream and will feature a special musical performance by Michael Franti, along with a live auction, award ceremony featuring stories of those served in our community, and many fun, familiar faces, according to the website. You may purchase a Safe@Home Party Kit, "invite your best quarantine buddies to tune in and we’ll supply the party favors and entertainment. Or, host a virtual gathering from Anywhere, USA,and tune in!" Online bids for the Silent Auction are going on now, so check them out!
  • Need some exercise for the kids and/or you! Reserve a time to walk, run or climb up and down the natural dune at Sand Dune Park. Or, reserve time in the outdoor Begg Pool or at the outdoor Skate Spot skatepark at Marine Avenue Park.
  • Random Note: The Source Cafe at 924 North Sepulveda Boulevard now has an outdoor dining patio, food to go and Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m.! Parking is behind the building and there is lots of it! Try a Turmeric Twist Cocktail, it's Chef Amber's ever-so-popular original Turmeric Tonic with something extra for adults. The Manhattan Beach menu is here.
