Meet Chevron's Newest Robot Dog At MBUSD's STEM Expo
The Manhattan Beach Middle School STEM Expo will give people the unique opportunity to interact with exhibits and cutting-edge technology.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Students and their families will get the chance to meet Chevron's new robotic dog Spot 2.0, and take part in a one-of-a-kind interactive experience at Manhattan Beach Middle School STEM Expo.
The STEM Expo, which will take place at MBMS on March 2, will give people the unique opportunity to interact with exhibits and cutting-edge technology for educational purposes. From marine biology exhibits to ice cream made with nitrogen, there will be activities for the whole family to learn from.
"Our foundation has dedicated funds to so many important initiatives in MBUSD, so we are grateful for Chevron and all our partners for creating opportunities for even our youngest students to explore the vast world of STEM," said Hilary Mahan, executive director of Manhattan Beach Education Foundation. "We firmly believe that for our community, state and country to retain a position at the forefront of scientific innovation, events such as the STEM Expo are critical."

At the event, Chevron will unveil its newest robot dog to attendees. Spot 2.0 is used to enhance safety, environmental stewardship and efficient operations at its El Segundo Refinery. The dog has a camera for a head and is programmed to perform routine operator duties and real-time facility scans of the refinery officials said.
Along with Spot 2.0, Chevron will also share its drone fleet, augmented reality technology and other breakthrough gadgets.

“Chevron’s STEM education support has never been stronger nor more in need,” said Fredrick Walker, Refinery Director at Chevron’s El Segundo facility. “Events such as the MBMS STEM Expo will continue to inspire the next generation of innovators to help meet the world’s energy needs, and we couldn’t be prouder of this education partnership.”
Attendees can also look forward to:
- Interactive exhibits from Two Bit Circus
- Marine biology activities from the Roundhouse Aquarium
- Demonstrations from MBMS STEM-based classes and clubs
- A look at how NITROPOD liquid nitrogen ice cream is made
The event will take place at the middle school at 1501 N. Redondo Ave. from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 2.
