Mira Costa High School Marching Band, Color Guard Win Championship
Mira Costa High School's Marching Band & Color Guard took home a championship for the first time.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Mira Costa High School students are back making music after a year of hiatus due to the pandemic — and now they're winning major accolades.
The Mira Costa High School Marching Band & Color Guard earned 1st place last weekend at the Southern California Regional Championships for the Western Bands Association, along with the awards for High Music and High Effect.
"Without a doubt, this is the most significant competitive placement the Marching Band & Color Guard has ever been honored with and it is a testament to the hard work of the membership, staff, and parent volunteers throughout the season," Cathy Oh, co-president of MCHS Bands Booster Board told Patch.

It took the entire team to score the big win, she said.
"Big shout out to Mr. Joel Carlson, our Band Director, and his staff for their persistence, amazing attitude, and talent," Oh said. "Also, a huge thanks go to our parent volunteers - VP of Marching Band/Colorguard Operations - Carolyn Mukai, Tina Shivpuri & Cori Rytz. It literally takes a village to get 76 Marching Band & Colorguard members through a season and Mr. Carlson and these parents volunteer spent countless hours to do just that."
