New Beach Mat Installed For Better Access
The Mobi-Mat extends the existing concrete pathway to the sea at 42nd Street to provide easy access to the shoreline.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Access to "Pathway to the Sea" at 42nd Street has just gotten easier for those who use wheelchairs, canes, or other mobility devises. Officials installed the new nylon mesh mat across the sand in El Porto, which extends the concrete walkway by 60 feet and then runs parallel to the ocean for another 100 feet.
"Our beaches belong to everyone, and we are working to make them accessible to everyone—including people with mobility challenges," said Supervisor Hahn, who represents Manhattan Beach. "The Mobi-Mat we [installed] at Manhattan Beach is designed to make it easier for people with wheelchairs or parents with strollers to get across the sand and enjoy the beach."
The access mat is designed to provide a more stable surface to people who may need assistance traversing the sand. There is also ADA parking and an ADA-accessible ramp to the beach.

The semi-permanent mats are part of the County's efforts to ensure everyone can visit LA County's iconic beaches. The Manhattan Beach mat is the first one installed this year, but the sixth overall, including a seasonal mat at Zuma Beach. Beach wheelchairs remain available along the coast.
The beach access mat is located at 4119 The Strand.
