Prepare For an Emergency Now: Know What To Do Before a Crisis Arises

The Manhattan Beach Fire Department and city's Community Emergency Response Team are offering a class in basic lifesaving and safety.

Being prepared for an emergency can be the difference between knowing what to do and standing on the sidelines when a disaster strikes.

If you’d like to be able to help yourself and others when an emergency happens, the Emergency Preparedness Training Class offered by the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team and the Manhattan Beach Fire Department is the training program for you.

Registration is now open for the next class, which will be held on three consecutive Saturdays in November: the 7th, 14th and 21st. Each Saturday class is scheduled for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Public Works Training Room on Bell Avenue in Manhattan Beach.

Training includes lifesaving skills, light fire-fighting skills, light search and rescue, first aid and transport, communicating to receive help, surviving until help arrives, and rapid triage and the actions to take to save multiple lives, according to MBCERT President George Butts.

The class will be held in the city’s Public Works Training Room, 3621 Bell Avenue, just off Rosecrans Avenue. Registration is first-come, first served with priority for those who live or work in Manhattan Beach.

The class is limited to 30 participants at a cost of $60 per person which offsets the cost of materials and expenses. Each participant receives a CERT backpack loaded with safety equipment.For information, email info@mbcerta.org or call George Butts at (310) 701-0101.
