Pride Month: Manhattan Beach To Unveil Rainbow Crosswalk

Manhattan Beach will recognize inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community with a rainbow crosswalk at Manhattan Beach Boulevard and the Strand.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The City of Manhattan Beach will recognize inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community with a rainbow crosswalk at Manhattan Beach Boulevard and the Strand next week.

The event at 5 p.m. Tuesday features a ribbon-cutting and includes comments from incoming Mayor Steve Napolitano as well as guest speakers.

“The rainbow crosswalk represents the City's commitment to inclusivity for all its residents,” Mayor Hildy Stern said in a statement. “This ribbon-cutting event has special meaning during Pride Month. It is an opportunity for our community to come together to support the LGBTQ+ community as we strive to be a welcoming city that assures everyone feels valued, safe, and supported.”

In April, the City Council approved the rainbow crosswalk design inspired by the waves within the official City logo and allocated $50,000 from the Public Art Trust fund for the installation of the crosswalk. Founded on the principle that every individual has infinite dignity and worth, the rainbow crosswalk embodies Manhattan Beach as a city working towards eliminating prejudice everywhere it exists.

The City celebrates June 2022 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and encourages residents to respect, honor, and celebrate a culture of inclusiveness and acceptance, city officials said.
