Rain Prompts Beach Water Use Advisory In Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A fast-moving storm forecast to hit Los Angeles County prompted health officials to issue a beach water use warning for all county beaches, including Manhattan Beach.

Rain is expected Monday night through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. This advisory will be in effect until at least Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. This advisory may be extended depending on further rainfall.

Bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards are likely to hit ocean waters during rainfall, county officials warn, according to Los Angeles County Health Officer, Muntu Davis, MD, MPH.

Health officials are cautioning residents to watch out for these hazards flowing from city streets and mountain areas, which are likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers after a rainfall.

People who enter the water in these areas could become ill.
