Seniors' Outcries Stop Hotel Development in Manhattan Beach

The Manhattan Beach City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to shelf the Parkview project.

Manhattan Beach, CA — Senior citizens living near the Manhattan Village mall have successfully stopped the city from bringing a hotel to a site near their senior living complex, the Daily Breeze reported.

The Manhattan Beach City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to shelf the Parkview project. The city had previously solicited bids from developers for a potential hotel on the city-owned parking lot that is wedged between the Manhattan Beach Country Club and the mall.

City council members said nonhotel options have been well-explored.

“We did not look at all the uses for this property,” Councilman David Lesser said. “I felt that we went forward immediately with an economic study of a hotel and based it solely on the economic justification (and) moved forward without a full community discussion.”
