Sick of Noises from Planes at LAX? Time Your Nap with Noise Map

LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles residents can now track LAX airport noise in real time using a map released Tuesday.

The "real-time noise map" was released by city Controller Ron Galperin as part of a "dashboard" that also includes data about Los Angeles International Airport traffic, airplane emissions, flight delays and spending.

"For the first time, we've brought key LAX metrics together in one place," Galperin said. "The dashboard is easily accessible and is intended to inform residents, businesses, travelers and city decision-makers about the operations and impacts of our nation's third-busiest airport."

The noise map, which shows the decibel levels of airplane noise during takeoffs and landings, can be found at http://airports.controlpanel.la/community-the-environment.

The airport spending data on the dashboard includes line items from fiscal year 2014-2015 such as $3.9 million for luggage carts, $314,425 for fingerprint processing and $11,296 in dog food for the police K-9 unit.
