South Bay Communities Invited To Celebrate United Against Hate Week

The South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate partnered with community organizations to host events during United Against Hate Week.

United Against Hate Week will take place from Sept 21 to Sept. 27 and is a call for local civic action to inspire Californians to push back against the rise of hate crimes and hate incidents in their communities.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate invited the community to celebrate United Against Hate Week with a variety of events.

United Against Hate Week will take place from Sept 21 to Sept. 27 and is a call for local civic action to inspire Californians to push back against the rise of hate crimes and hate incidents in their communities.

“Through these special programs and activities, we welcome everyone to stand with us in solidarity against hate and discrimination in all its forms. We hope you will attend these programs to learn, support each other, and bring our community together in kindness and peace,” said Hildy Stern, Chair of the Coalition.

During the celebration, the community can attend the following events:

International Day of Peace Wave - Sept. 21 at 11:30 a.m.

To commemorate the International Day of Peace, Peace Poles gatherings will take place at multiple locations, including:

  • allcove Beach Cities at Beach Cities Health District
  • 514 N. Prospect Blvd., Fourth Floor, Redondo Beach, CA 90277

Community Interfaith Gathering for LGBTQ+ Solidarity “Rainbow Doors of Welcome” - Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.

A panel discussion and resource fair aims to bring the community together in light of vandalism that occurred in July 2024 at the Manhattan Beach Community Church's "Rainbow Doors" outdoor display. A blessing ceremony will take place to commemorate a replacement set of "Rainbow Doors."

How School Safety Supports LGBTQ+ Mental Health - Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Beach Cities Health District and PFLAG will host a community discussion at Redondo Union High School.

Peace Pole dedication hosted by El Segundo Unified School District and El Segundo Rotary Club - Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.

The event will be held at El Segundo High School.

City of El Segundo Candlelight Vigil - Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.

This event will be hosted by the City of El Segundo’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at Liberty Park.

Nutrition Pantry Drive - All week

Drop off donations of canned beans, tomatoes, corn and meat, chicken/vegetable stock, flour, Maseca, dried beans, rice, pasta, cereal, granola bars, sugar or oil at collection boxes located at the following locations:
