Torrance police Sgt. Paul Kranke said the store owner told police that the suspect was shot during an attempted robbery at the business. The man was armed, but police don't believe he fired any shots during the attempted robbery, Kranke said.
The store owner was alone in the store at the time. Kranke said the owner was interviewed by detectives, who were trying to determine what led to the shooting.

His name was not released by police, but the Daily Breeze identified him as 59-year-old Tad Tanino, who has run the business for more than 30 years.
His daughter and the store's namesake, 38-year-old Leilani Tanino, told the newspaper that she spoke to her father by phone after the shooting.
"He said, 'I'm not hurt, but I'm not OK," she said. "He's probably quite a bit shaken up. My heart was pounding out of my chest."
