Travel Quarantine Prompts Manhattan Beach School Board Meeting

Manhattan Beach Unified School District is convening a special board meeting on Dec. 31 to discuss delaying a return to school by one week.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — With the advent of a new 10-day travel quarantine, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 31 beginning at 9:30 a.m. to discuss delaying a return to on-campus learning by one week.

The new 10-day self-quarantine was issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday, Dec. 28 due to the major increase in individuals testing positive for the coronavirus in the county as well as capacity issues at hospitals.

The school district issued an Instagram post noting that employees and families who have traveled are "in a challenging situation, as they may have made plans following previous guidelines."

Due to the new health order to self-quarantine after traveling, MBUSD Superintendent Dr. Mike Matthews is recommending that in-person learning resume on Monday, Jan. 11 and not Monday, Jan. 4 as previously announced and planned for.

The school board will only discuss this new situation, according to the Instagram post. To view the meeting live, visit the school district's YouTube channel. To view the meeting agenda, visit the district website.
