Volunteers Needed For Manhattan Beach Dune Restoration Project

The Bay Foundation is offering Manhattan Beach residents the chance to aid in restoration efforts of the dunes along the city's shoreline.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach residents were invited to join The Bay Foundation to help remove non-native plants and restore the habitat at The Strand.

The goals of the Manhattan Beach Dune Restoration project are to increase the resiliency of the shoreline and implement nature-based protection against storms and sea level rise. Project leaders have increased engagement in the community through outreach and education.

For two years, project groups have helped restore approximately three acres of the existing dunes along the North Manhattan Beach coastline. Volunteers have helped install symbolic post and rope and native plants.

Residents are welcome to volunteer for an upcoming restoration event to help increase biodiversity and coastal resilience on the Manhattan Beach Strand.

Volunteers will meet on Saturday, November 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Bruce's Beach near The Strand and 27th Street. Organizers encouraged participants to bring close-toes shoes, water and sun protection. Tools and gloves will be provided.
