Your Water May Be Discolored In Manhattan Beach. Here's Why
City officials maintain that the water remains safe to drink, but recommend residents take precautions if the water looks brown or cloudy.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Residents and businesses in Downtown Manhattan Beach may notice their water is discolored when running a faucet or doing laundry as construction continues at Lot 3.
Manhattan Beach officials said in a statement Tuesday that construction crews are using a "large amount" of water to control dust at the Lot 3 site, which is causing natural minerals to get into the city's pipes.
The city's water remains safe to drink, according to Manhattan Beach officials, and water flow has since been reduced at the construction site to minimize the issue.

Still, they recommend that anyone affected take the following steps if they experience brown or cloudy water:
- Avoid doing laundry
- Run cold water for 5 to 10 minutes
- Try running the water after an hour if needed
Construction on Lot 3 started in late 2024 and is undergoing a full redesign, according to city officials. The project is expected to be finished by late May.
