New Cafe Opens on the Waterfront

Killer Cafe opened its doors today to the public.

If Johnny Cash and Jimmy Buffett argued over what type of cafe to open, they would likely settle on Killer Cafe.

Killer Cafe is the newest addition to the family, a local favorite that relocated to Admiralty Way from Washington Boulevard last year.

The interior resembles the cabin of a boat, with long, arched, dark-wood beams across a bowed white ceiling. A 30-foot counter that faces the kitchen lines the restaurant, opposite of nine spacious black and red booths that match the 1950’s-style bar stools.

“We felt like the area was underserved,” said co-owner Brett Doherty. “And we wanted to have a place for the community to get together for breakfast.”

He and Kevin Michaels, the other co-owner, grew up in the area and remodeled the interior themselves in about a month and a half.

The current space, at 4211 Admiralty Way is the former home of Edie’s Diner and Organic Panificio, but has been unoccupied for over a year.

Faithful to its sister restaurant, specialty plates at Killer Cafe mostly include shrimp – shrimp omelet infused with red bell peppers and caramelized onions, shrimp and grits and shrimp over eggs benedict.

Killer Cafe is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. everyday, and prices for most menu items range from about $8-12.
