Marina Freeway Closed in Both Directions Because of Fallen Power Line

More than 70 businesses in Los Angeles Department of Water and Power lost power and 1,200 customers in SCE territory briefly lost power.

PLAYA VISTA, CA -- A power line fell onto the Marina (90) Freeway Monday in Playa Vista, causing a full closure of the roadway and knocking out electricity to more than 70 businesses.

The line was reported down about 1:15 p.m. across the freeway west of Centinela Avenue, according to Vonda Paige of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The line was hanging over the westbound lanes and on the pavement across three eastbound lanes of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Westbound traffic was diverted onto the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the CHP.

It's unclear what caused the line to come down. All lanes were reopened by 6:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

Caltrans and DWP crews were called to the scene, according to the CHP.

Seventy-three commercial clients lost electricity, according to Paige, who said an estimated time of service restoration was not available.

About 1,200 customers in the area briefly lost power because of the fallen power line, according to Southern California Edison.

Power has since been restored to the area, according to SCE.
