Police Blotter: Jewelry Stolen and Anchors Away

The crime theme in and near Marina del Rey in recent weeks continues to be theft, as these accounts demonstrate. All the crimes occurred within the patrol area of the .

Home Ransacked and Jewelry Stolen

A burglar broke into a retired woman's home while she was away, ransacked her bedroom and made off with $60 worth of jewelry, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The burglary took place June 24 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. when someone broke the woman's bedroom window by apparently using a pottled plant to shatter the glass, the report said. Deputies found the window's screen had been cut and dresser drawers emptied onto the floor.

Two neighbors were interviewed by deputies, but they said they didn't see anything.

A deputy was called out to search for fingerprints.

No arrest was made.

Jewelry Heist

A burglar shattered a bedroom window and stole an estimated $20,000 worth of necklaces, bracelets, rings and other jewelry, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The burglary occurred June 17 between 1 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. when someone broke a 2-foot by 3-foot window to gain access to the master bedroom. The room was ransacked and the burglar left through the same busted window, the report said.

There were no witnesses.

A print deputy was requested.

No arrest was made.

Vehicle Burglary

A man came into the sheriff's Marina del Rey station June 10 to report that someone broke into his vehicle and stole a $500 Panasonic digital camera, a pair of Oakley sunglasses and 10 DVDs, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The vehicle burglary took place between June 8 at 8 p.m. and June 10 at 4 p.m. after someone dislodged the front passenger window of the vehicle to gain access, the report said. The vehicle was locked and in its assigned parking space in a first-floor garage when the burglary took place.

Deputies noticed fingerprints on the driver's side front winow and a deputy was requested to take fingerprints, the report said.

No arrest was made.

Anchors Away

A woman reported that someone stole two anchors worth $1,200 from her 50-foot yacht that was left unlocked and in care of someone else, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The theft took place between May 2 and May 25 while the vessel was moored at a transient dock in the marina, the report said. The vessel's owner said she left it in the care of a man to complete some mechanical work on the yacht and when she returned May 25 the pair of Danforth steel anchors were missing.

The woman reported seeing two anchors that looked like hers aboard another vessel that frequently anchors outside the south entrance of the marina. She could not, however, positively identify the anchors as the ones that were stolen.

No arrest was made.

Rods and Reels Stolen

A thief hauled in $2,450 worth of fishing rods and reels from a 45-foot boat moored in the marina, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The grand theft took place between June 8 at 7:30 p.m. and June 9 at 9:30 a.m., according to the report. A $250 8-foot Calstar fishing rod, a $100 8-foot Seeker fishing rood, a $1,500 Penn fishing reel and an $600 Shimano reel were taken from the vessel's fishing rod holders on the aft deck, the report said.

No arrest was made.
