Sunny Afternoon, Election Results and Blogging

The National Weather Service says it will be sunny this afternoon, but expect patchy fog late tonight.

Today is May 20. It is the 140th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:53 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 64 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 54 degrees. A high surf advisory has been issued for south-facing beaches due to a southerly swell that should produce breakers of 5- to 7-feet with maximum sets of 9-feet. The high surf advisory expires today at 6 p.m.

Forecasters said it should be foggy Saturday morning before gradually clearing to partly sunny in the afternoon with a high near 63 degrees.

2. The election to fill a vacant seat in Congress has been decided. Republican candidate Craig Huey finished second in Tuesday's election and will face Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn in a July 12 runoff election. More details on the election can be found right here.

3. The Del Rey Neighborhood Council met yesterday but didn't have enough board members present for a quorum and couldn't vote on several motions to provide funding in support of children's programs and the Del Rey Art Walk, which is returning June 25. The missing board members included on director who has has unexcused absences for months. More details right here.
