Sunny Afternoon, Sailor Memorial and Brennan's Honored

Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki in his latest column remembers an avid sailor who made his mark in Marina del Rey.

Today is May 26. It is the 146th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:57 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 67 degrees with a mostly clear night and an overnight low of around 54 degrees. It should be breezy and sunny Friday with a high near 67 degrees.

2. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki in his latest column reflects on the life of avid sailor Marco Karpodines, founder of the Single Sailors of Southern California. Learn more about Karpodines and his burial at sea right here.

3. Esquire magazine has released its 2011 rankings of the best bars in the country and our very own Brennan's Pub in Marina del Rey is one of then Los Angeles-area bars that made the list. Congrats to our turtle-racing friends! More details here and here.

4. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com
