Investigators believe that a grass fire that blackened about 50 acres of land near Briones Regional Park in unincorporated Contra Costa County on Wednesday night was suspicious, a county fire marshal said today.
The two-alarm fire started shortly after 8 p.m. off of Alhambra Valley Road, near Castro Ranch Road, Contra Costa County Fire Protection
District Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.
Firefighters had the blaze contained shortly after 12:20 a.m. today, Broschard said.
No structures were damaged or threatened, and no injuries were reported.
The fire district received help from multiple west Contra Costa County fire agencies as well as Cal Fire, which brought in additional resources to help get the blaze under control more quickly.
Cal Fire is investigating the cause of the fire, Broschard said.
