Are Painted Toenails A Path to Disaster?

This week, the infamous J. Crew picture and the controversy of a boy with pink toenails.

Not long ago, the president and creative director for J. Crew, Jenna Lyons, sent out an email showing herself and her 5-year-old son, Beckett, sharing some play time. She is smiling at him, he is smiling back at her β€” it is a lovely picture of a mother and son sharing one of those great moments in life. But there's something different about this photograph; Beckett has neon pink toenails. Someone, no doubt the mom, has painted them pink. While they share a laugh over this, others are not amused.

We read in the Los Angeles Times that Erin Brown of the Culure and Media Institute feels such ads are a way to erase the gender distinctions of our youth, and endorse gender neutral notions, or even transgender behavior.

Psychiatrist Keith Ablow writes on Foxnews.com that a boy with pink toenail polish is akin to a boy posing in a sundress.
