Celebration: Martinez Fishing Pier Opens Saturday
The Martinez Fishing Pier is reopening with a celebration Saturday morning after years of planning and construction.
MARTINEZ, CA — The Martinez Fishing Pier is reopening with a celebration Saturday morning after years of planning and construction, city officials said.
The grand reopening event is planned for 9 a.m. at the Martinez Marina with remarks from city leaders and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
The pier closed in September 2021 because of concerns over structural deficiencies. After temporary repairs, a portion of the pier reopened, but later closed again.

Planning for the pier repairs initially began in 2019 and the project received a $2.5 million federal grant in 2023 to address the damage to the deck as well as pilings supporting the pier below the water line.
Construction began last November and was overseen by the Vallejo-based firm DRS Marine Inc. Among the upgrades are new railings and lighting and the addition of benches and picnic tables, according to the city.

The pier was originally constructed in 1934 and had sections rebuilt in 1976. According to the city, the pier and surrounding parkland are used by thousands of visitors each year and also hosts a monitoring station for the California Department of Water Resources.
City officials on social media invited the public to join the reopening event Saturday at the pier and to "share in the great views that it is so loved for."
