District Projects Big Energy Savings With New Program

An outside company will work with a new employee to save energy costs.

Monday, May 2 marks the first official day of the Martinez Unified School District’s new energy savings program, with an outside company – Energy Education – running the program in conjunction with a new district position – Energy Education Specialist (EES).

Former Alhambra High School vice principal and District Bond Coordinator Danny Hillman has been chosen for the role of EES. He will receive extensive training from Energy Education in the ways of conservation, using a variety of technologies and software to make sure that each school is using energy as efficiently as possible.

Another of Hillman’s responsibilities will be to work with students, teachers and staff to teach them to use energy wisely.

Energy Education Specialists are responsible for helping to motivate everyone in the system to use energy wisely, keep classrooms comfortable, and practice smart energy strategies,” according to a release from Energy Education.

The time has arrived for us to address savings at every level of the organization,” said Superintendent Rami Muth. “This people-oriented program helps us save using the systems and personnel already in place. Every dollar we don’t spend on energy is a dollar we save for educational purposes.”
