Driver Killed After Truck Strikes Utility Pole: Pittsburg PD

The case remains under investigation, Pittsburg police said.

PITTSBURG, CA — One person died Tuesday following a crash in Pittsburg.

According to the Pittsburg Police Department, around 11 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle collision near the intersection of Pittsburg/Antioch Highway and East 14th Street.

When officers arrived, they said a pickup truck pulling a trailer had collided with a utility pole.

"The driver of the vehicle was suffering from head trauma and immediately transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased," police said in a news release. "Impairment nor distracted driving appeared to be a factor in the cause of the collision at this time."

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was traveling east on Pittsburg/Antioch Highway.

For reasons unknown at this time, police said the truck veered off the roadway and collided with a utility pole located on the south shoulder of the roadway. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification to the family.

The case remains under investigation and officers are examining the city’s video surveillance system to see if it may have captured the incident.
