Egging On Patty Lorick
Plus, morons strike downtown, strolling for wine, and the mysteries of life.

It's MONDAY, April 25, 2011. A soggy morning after a soggy Sunday, but fortunately there was enough sun this weekend to provide egg-hunting weather for the ambitious basket-wielding bunny-lovers who were on the prowl for what my friend Gina Graziano likes to call spring spheres. If you didn't catch it already, check out the video from Saturday's , put on by the ever-fantastic Patty Lorick of the city's Recreation Department. Patty has been staging countless events like this for years, and if she's ever put on a dud, I've never seen it. She is one of the unsung treasures of our city and deserves our gratitude. There are a lot of young adults walking around town these days who grew up attending events organized by Patty and her department. So thanks, Patty. You keep the fun alive in our town.
- Speaking of events, there will be another on Saturday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Main Street. You get a wine glass and each store you visit will let you sample a different local or regional wine. It's a great way to visit downtown Martinez. Tickets are $15 in advance, $25 the day of the event.Β
- The exhibit is up and running at the mARTinez Gallery. You might want to check this out, and see if you can solve the mystery.Β
- The Martinez Unified School District Board meets Monday beginning at 7 p.m. On the agenda is a report on why Las Juntas should continue the extended day kindergarten class next year after this year's successful pilot. Stay tuned to Patch for the outcome of this discussion.
- This morning some moron decided it would be a good idea to smash some windows downtown. Among the windows that were taken out was the display window at . This act of vandalism is disturbing on a lot of levels. One observer noted that it seemed as though there are more unsavory characters hanging around of late. What is your take on that?
- Finally, it's the fourth Monday of the month, which means tonight it's Blues Jam at Armando's. Bring $3 and a case of the blues, and join in the festivities, from the audience or from the stage.
