He Overcomes Any Challenge That Comes His Way: Star Martinez Student
Patch and T-Mobile are partnering to celebrate Star Students who make life better in California with contributions big and small.

MARTINEZ, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Vicky Davidson who nominated her son, Owen, a sixth-grader in Martinez.

How do you know the star local student?
He is my son!
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Owen was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate that we thought would lead to speech delay, hearing loss, and bullying. His first surgery was at 5 mo old, another one at 11 mo old, and the last one was right before kindergarten. Luckily, his cleft lip and palate didn't lead to many complications. He has always been advanced academically since the first day of pre-school. Definitely an overachiever! He loves to read and always tried his best in everything he has done; from sports (soccer, basketball, and baseball) to school (has been receiving all A's). He also loves acting and learned how to play the ukulele by himself. Socially, he is always the best teammate and best friends to his homies.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Owen can overcome any challenge that comes his way!
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Owen!
