CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- A Vallejo man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for trying to evade Vallejo police on Interstate Highway 80 in Solano and Contra Costa counties, according to police.

Around 3:15 p.m. on March 20, Vallejo police tried to stop a green 1989 Mercedes-Benz with a license plate that did not match the vehicle at Lemon and Union streets in Vallejo west of Highway 80, Lt. Herman Robinson said.

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Phillip Chambers, failed to yield and drove over the Carquinez Bridge and on westbound Highway 80 at speeds of up to 120 mph, Robinson said.
